(Guiotto 2006)
The Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat (Lasiorhinus krefftii) is one of three native Australian herbivorous quadrupedal marsupials in the family Vombatidae. In the nineteenth century, the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat was found occupying regions of Victoria and New South Wales, however, today it only survives in a small national park located in tropical Queensland near Epping Forest Station (Koala Express 2001). This wombat species is critically endangered and, according to Taggart et al. 2008, is one of the rarest large mammals in the world.
